The sailing ship now appearing abundantly throughout this site, and on our stationery, has been adopted as our logo. Edward de Bono has many interesting techniques for generating creative ideas. One of them involves taking a word at random from the dictionary and seeing what associations start to flow. The silhouette, originally used just as a short-term expedient, worked the same way. What it might say to you will depend on whether your main interest is in transport policy, transport planning or transport management.
| policy | - exploits a renewable energy source - sustainable transport! |
| planning | - requires a crew with a range of specialist skills if it is to function |
| management | - leaves port in order to make money for the owner |
Cynics might take a slightly different view, something like this:
| policy | - won't go unless pushed by external forces |
| planning | - depends on obsolete technology |
| management | - the skipper often ends up bonkers if he doesn't drown first |
Sure, that too. But just remember the words of Conrad's Captain Powell:
"... no ship sailed in the happy-go-lucky manner people ashore conduct their business would ever arrive in port."
